Department Description

The Maimon lab aims to link the electrical activity of neurons and the biochemical action of molecules to their computational roles in animal behavior. The lab has a particular interest in understanding how central brain structures, distant from the sensory and motor periphery, govern behavioral choice.

Detailed Description

The Scientific Programmer will be responsible for developing and supporting custom software/hardware systems for behavioral and neurophysiological experiments in fruit flies. The position will entail extensive software development-- primarily in Python and ROS2 on Linux, to a lesser extent in C++ and Matlab--working with soft and hard real-time systems. Many of these projects will entail flexibly interfacing custom software with hardware (cameras, microcontrollers, motors, lasers, etc.). We are looking for an individual with a love of independently completing projects in an academic setting, for the purposes of advancing basic research. Targeted salary is $75,000 to $100,000.

Job Requirements

Bachelor's degree in either engineering, math, physics, or a related field required; Ph.D. preferred. Must be comfortable working independently with a strong interest in assimilating new information for the sake of accomplishing complete project cycles. Programming experience across multiple languages required. The laboratory extensively uses open-source software and hardware.
