Job Title Research Assistant
Laboratory / Department Retrovirology
The Laboratory of Retrovirology, headed by Dr. Paul Bieniasz and Theodora Hatziioannou, is currently engaged in research to discover the mechanisms by which host cell proteins affect the replication of human and simian immunodeficiency viruses. A significant application of this research is the development of better animal models for AIDS, which will aid the advancement of treatment and vaccine strategies.
The Lab is looking for highly intelligent and motivated Research Assistants that are interested in pursuing a career in medicine and/or scientific research. The Research Assistants will be making contributions to the highly productive Lab at the forefront of virology research, working alongside its other scientists. Specifically, the Research Assistant will conduct experiments in molecular virology including cloning, real time PCR, tissue culture, virus production and titrations, immunoblots, and microscopy.
Bachelor's degree in science required. Prior laboratory experience is also a must, specifically working in molecular biology and tissue culture. Applicants must have the ability to work independently as well as alongside others. Must also possess a keen attention to detail and be well-organize, with the ability to maintain a careful record of the work performed.
