Job Information
Rockefeller University Research Assistant, Neurophysiology and Behavior in New York, New York
Job: IRC25395
Description
Job Title Research Assistant, Neurophysiology and Behavior
Laboratory / Department Neurophysiology and Behavior
Department Description
Our Laboratory applies a multidisciplinary approach to study olfactory processing in insects, from the molecular mechanisms of odor detection to odor perception's neural mechanisms. A central focus is to define the structural and mechanistic basis of odor signaling in insect odorant receptors, using biochemistry, cryo-EM, and functional assays to reveal insight into this large and highly divergent family of ion channels. This work's fundamental goal is to develop a mechanistic understanding of this receptor family and lay the foundation for the rational design of insect repellents and novel strategies for the control of insect vectors of human disease.
Detailed Description
The Laboratory is seeking a highly motivated Research Assistant who will work as part of a team to carry out structural and functional studies of insect odorant receptors. Responsibilities include generating DNA constructs, purification of proteins from insect and mammalian cells and functional characterization. Will conduct experiments including PCR, cloning by restriction enzyme and Gibson assembly, tissue culture, cell transfection and infection, virus production, column chromatography, SDS-PAGE, western blot, and cell-based functional assays. Will work independently and within a small team.
Job Requirements
Bachelor's degree in science and a strong interest in biochemistry, pharmacology, or neuroscience required; Master's degree preferred. Must have excellent organizational, communication and time management skills and the desire to be part of a dynamic and highly interdisciplinary lab. Must be detail-oriented, flexible, and adaptable to changing needs and priorities. Must be proactive, responsive, and take ownership of your work.
