The goal of Information Technology (IT) is to provide information resources and services to accelerate and support scientific research at The Rockefeller University. Our department is responsible for cyberinfrastructure, high-performance computing, bioinformatics, decision support, data analytics, cybersecurity, and the scientific and administrative software environment at the university. The department is in the midst of a major transition in culture, including the adoption of DevOps and Agile practices, the facilitation of self-service approaches, as well as a "cloud first" deployment philosophy.
The Cloud and Container Engineering group is seeking a DevOps Engineer that is passionate about infrastructure-as-code, and all things automation. The DevOps Engineer will be a key player in bootstrapping the Cloud and Container transformation at Rockefeller University, deploying Kubernetes clusters on premises and in-cloud to support a growing number of open-source, commercial, and in-house cloud-native applications. Will implement and assist other groups in the use of CI/CD pipelines. Will help design, build, and maintain the tooling for configuration management, automated provisioning, as well as monitoring. Will help evangelize best practices in DevOps, Agile and technical innovation. As the second DevOps Engineer on the team you will have a big impact on future developments.
Proven ability and passion for continuous learning, and the ability to critically evaluate new technologies. Ability to drive best practices, mentor others, and advocate for technical innovation. A strong sense of ownership and accountability, attention to detail with strong organizational and documentation skills. Experience working in an Agile environment, DevOps/SRE practices, and implementation of CI/CD pipelines. and software development. Experience with container infrastructure, configuration management, and public Cloud platforms. Demonstrated ability in software development, use of Git, and branching. Fluency and 5+ years demonstrated experience with the Linux operating system, and understanding networking principles and protocols. A bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in computer science, applied mathematics, engineering or a related technical field. A philosophical approach to automate yourself out of any manual toil.
Highly desirable: experience with Kubernetes in Google Cloud (GKE), cloud-native storage technologies and Layer 4-7 load balancers and service mesh. Working knowledge of web-based application development and hosting technologies. Experience in TDD/BDD and automated testing tools and large scale monitoring tools. Experience in an academic computing environment or scientific laboratory. A graduate degree in computer science, applied mathematics, engineering or a related technical field.
