Department Description

The Clinical Genomics Laboratory (CGL) is the first clinical laboratory established at The Rockefeller University. It focuses on the analysis and reporting of inherited genomic variants that increase the risk of certain diseases in an individual, as well as somatic mutations in tumors that can be utilized for patient management. Also, the CGL is focused on scaling up SARS-CoV-2 testing of home collected saliva specimens. With guidance from the laboratory director, the CGL Supervisor will oversee the daily operations of the laboratory and perform technical assays if needed.

Detailed Description

Working with the Laboratory Director, the Supervisor will oversee the daily operations of the laboratory and perform technical assays as needed. Will oversee the development, performance, and monitoring of quality control, quality assurance, and quality improvement procedures for the laboratory. Will monitor all regulatory compliance for the laboratory and ensure compliance with NYSDOH. Will work with the laboratory and administrative personnel to ensure that testing meets all prescribed requirements of various regulatory standards and will ensure that the departmental biohazard, chemical, hazardous waste, infection control, and other safety policies are followed. The Supervisor will train and manage staff, including the COVID Response Team, as established under Executive Order 202.16, and will supervise all personnel-related activities, including talent recruitment, competency training, staff development, performance evaluations, and career development and mentorship. Will perform clinical assays as needed according to laboratory and assay-specific SOPs, review clinical data for completeness, appropriate interpretation, and readiness for director sign off, participate in method validation for new procedures and equipment, and participate in developing and writing of new procedures and revising old ones. Will process requests and investigate complaints through to resolution from physicians, staff, and patients and report all complaints to appropriate personnel. Will perform instrument management activities and participate in equipment procurement processes as needed, conduct analyses as necessary to highlight issues and resolve questions or problems in the laboratory, and ensure that corrective actions are taken and documented.

Job Requirements

Bachelor's degree in science and New York State clinical laboratory technologist license required. Must have a minimum of six years of experience as a clinical technologist, or a Master's degree and a minimum of four years of experience, or a Doctorate with a minimum of two years of experience. Previous experience performing high complexity testing, with working knowledge of related theory, principles, practices, applicable instrumentation, analytical methods, quality control, statistical analysis, and current government regulations required. Must demonstrate strong administrative and leadership skills.
