The Rockefeller University's Child and Family Center (CFC) is centrally located on our beautiful 14-acre campus. The CFC offers childcare and education to families affiliated with the University. Our families reflect the multicultural dimension of science, and come from all over the world to study and work at Rockefeller. We have as many as 26 different languages represented in our diverse student body. Our teaching staff is also multinational and many of our teachers are bi-lingual. The CFC is open 50 weeks a year from 8:30 to 6:00, Monday through Friday. We close the week between Christmas and New Year's, when the University is closed.
Reporting to the Director of the Child and Family Center (CFC), the Assistant Director will support all aspects of daily operations of the CFC. Responsibilities include supervising the development and implementation of curriculum, planning, analyzing, developing, and implementing short and long-term goals, suggesting and developing policy and program changes that respond to the needs of the University and CFC community, and building and nurturing a strong educational and administrative team that will lead the CFC effectively. Will define staffing and scheduling requirements to fulfill the commitments of the program, assist with recruiting and hiring professional staff, engage in regular, reflective supervision with teaching staff, engage in and promote regular parent involvement and development activities, ensure compliance with New York City and New York State regulatory agencies, and provide back-up in the Director's absence. Will establish, maintain and effectively communicate the educational mission, philosophy and policies of the CFC to the community (teachers, parents, and children).
Master's degree in early childhood education required; early childhood teaching experience including working with infants, toddlers, and preschooler aged children required; current New York state teacher certification preferred. Previous supervisory experience strongly preferred. Must have strong communication (oral and written), organizational, interpersonal, and managerial skills. Must have an interest and ability in developing relationships with children, parents and colleagues, and a sense of humor. Second language skills preferred; computer proficiency required.
Must be able to engage in a full range of motion, to stand and walk for extended periods, bending, pushing, pulling, squatting, climbing, running, getting up and down from the floor with ease, walking on even and uneven surfaces. Must be able to lift, hold, and carry up to 50 pounds. Must be able to reach above the shoulders, have corrected hearing and vision to normal range, as well as hand grasping, touching, manual dexterity and hand-eye control. Must be able to perform diaper changes, and fully participate in classroom activities. Must be able to supervise and interact with children outdoors for extended periods in variable weather conditions. Must be comfortable in unpredictable situations/emergencies.
